Joining a Fitness Club
If you are serious about getting fit then it’s a great idea to join a gym or fitness club. Finding the right one will be much simpler if you know what it is you want to get out of it. This may all sound trivial but the number of people that join clubs and then leave because it doesn’t meet with their needs, usually within a matter of months, is enormous. Without a doubt the number one point is the location because if it isn’t near your place of work or home you will not keep up your attendance.
The instructor also needs to be well trained and a good motivator if you are someone that requires that level of attention.
They will also need to be aware of any physical limitations you may have or of any special needs before the training starts. Appearances can be deceptive but the attitude of the staff when you ask them about the club and any other special services they can offer will tell you a great deal about how the club is run. Increasing numbers of fitness clubs have specialists who work certain days or are resident such as physiotherapists and nutritionists for instance.
Try to find a club with flexible opening hours because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. If you have specific classes in mind, make sure they have them before you join the fitness club; preferably more than one per week. Take a look around the gymnasium to see they have enough equipment or you will find queues at busy times which will put you off attending. The sign of a good club is well maintained machines so look to see if there are any that are not working and if there are, try to find out how long they have been that way.
Almost all clubs have a healthy social calendar and this is a good time to get an invitation before you join and perhaps meet few people you might be able to get on with when you’re training. Eventually, whether you join or not will be down to the cost of membership but don’t forget to see if they have and other charges that are not immediately apparent. Visit more than one fitness club; make up a list, preferably at least three to take a look at, perhaps at different price levels as it will be worth your while to see what’s available. Choosing a club is just like shopping on the best shirt for you so don’t be pressured or contact them right away; take your time to review and gather enough information if you are still not sure which one to choose.
